We are looking forward to sharing our calendar 2023 with you online. Every month a fascinating microscopy image will be revealed reflecting the research of IMN and CENEM.
The cover picture shows an electron diffraction image of TiS2, a layered crystalline material. A special technique called large-angle convergent beam electron diffraction (LACBED) has been used to nicely reveal the six-fold symmetry of the crystal in [0001] projection. The six “arachnids” and other contrast features in the circular diffraction disc originate from multiple scattering of electrons in the crystalline sample.
