  • Biography

I studied Physics with focus on Medical Physics at the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and obtained the diploma degree in 2010. I finished my diploma thesis “Optimization of Reconstruction Algorithms in Electron Tomography” at the Institute of Medical Physics (IMP) of the FAU (supervisor: Prof. Dr. Marc Kachelrieß). During my Erasmus studies at the University of Cantabria in Santander (Spain) I obtained a diploma degree in “European Business and Economics” in 2007. In 2016, I received a doctoral degree in engineering (Dr.-Ing.) with the corresponding PhD thesis titled “Quantitative Electron Tomography of Functional Nanomaterials” realized at the IMN and CENEM of the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg (supervisor: Prof. Dr. Erdmann Spiecker). In 2013, I was a visiting PhD student at the University of Cambridge (UK) in the Electron Microscopy Group (Prof. Dr. Paul Midgley) for a project within the European Network for Electron Microscopy (ESTEEM2). Since 2018, I am Academic Advisor (German Akademischer Rat) at IMN and CENEM. My research interests include: + nanotomography (electron tomography, Nano-CT, FIB-SEM slice & view tomography) of porous and nanoparticulate materials (amongst others) + conventional, 360° (“on-axis”) and cryo electron tomography + correlative and scale-bridging tomography approaches + segmentation and quantitative analyses of tomographic datasets + time-resolved nanotomography of in situ experiments, e.g., nanomechanics or heating experiments + optimization of 3D reconstruction techniques + development of optimized preparation techniques for electron tomography + application of conventional and analytical TEM techniques My tasks comprise amongst others: + contact person for scientific collaboration requests and industry projects using CENEM’s electron microscopy facilities + contact person for requests for training within the CENEM user facility + facility co-supervisor of the double Cs-corrected, monochromated FEI Titan Themis 300 TEM + contact person for IZNF-related issues (deputy property manager) Furthermore, I partly hold teaching obligation for the following lectures and practical courses: + "Transmissionselektronenmikroskopie in Materialforschung und Nanotechnologie 2" (Master’s degree course; summer semesters) + "Grundlagen der Nanotechnologie – Charakterisierung" (Bachelor’s degree course; summer semesters) + "Praktikum Nanotechnologie Synthese/Charakterisierung von Nanopartikel" (Master’s degree course; winter semesters)
